It hurts to not see proper southern biscuits
in gravy when my stomach was on alert for them based on the text. (What would you call them? Fluffy, buttery bread pucks?)

Mother nature has lots of ploys to keep balance. Problem is we don’t think they apply to us.

Lol. No. Found online.
Americans do ‘biscuits in gravy’, like so....
But to an English person, biscuits in gravy sounds like

But thos
e
are biscuits! The longer ones are
Bourbon Cream
They’re in gravy. I wouldn’t match those two myself but then I’v
e
never tried the combo.

To be honest, they look like scones or similar.

I was referring to the dalek.

The first time I saw American style biscuits and gravy, I thought it looked like vomit. The next time I saw it, I decided to try it. It’s definitely tasty stuff, even if it looks unappetizing.

True. Or is it?

I have had proper scones. It’s a reasonable reference point, but American biscuits are not as dense and have a very different texture. I wish you could visit the US and try some.
Plus chicken and dumplings. And proper eastern Carolina pulled pork barbeque. And . . . all sorts of American type foods
that are wonderful and not healthy to eat on a regular basis.

I’m wondering if there’s an English version of grits? America is so big that lots of Americans have never had certain American foods.

Thats one of the best laughs I've had all day because that just seems so. . . wrong. I can't imagine anyone wanting something with no sauce absorbtion with whatever that is
![]() 04/04/2020 at 14:21 |

Oh they absorb alright, in fact they absorb so well when you dunk them in your tea or coffee you have to be careful how long you dunk or it’ll break off and fall to the bottom of the cup. A waste of such a good biscuit.

Well my lifelong gluten allergy unfortunately precludes any gravy at all and most biscuits, so even that has left you with more experience than I.

one word: C ybermats. T hose things suck. At least you can see/hear a Dalek coming.

Do you not have gluten free gravy?
Hang in there. I was born coeliacs (ye’, you guys spell it differently) but went into remission 25+ years ago and can now safely eat wheat, barley, oats, rye and gluten.
If I can send you any gluten free foods, just let me know. I’, more than happy to, especially as I’ve been there and there was far less options back then.

Yeah I remember when people looked at you like you might be dangerous, or perhaps an alien in disguise, if you mentioned it. It's much better now, but I guess I just never bothered with gravy since I can't miss what I never knew.

Ye’, me and my sister never went to other peoples birthday parties when we were kids because people thought just being in a room with a cake would cause us to be unwell.
We grew up with some other social outcasts (at the time), the children of an Iraq air force defector.
Now it’s ‘trendy’ to say people are allergic to gluten, dairy, etc... it’s infuriating, but it has spurred on manufacturers to cater to them, so we’ve benefited from it really.
We have ‘Free From’ chicken and beef gravies . Which is wheat free, gluten free and milk free.
Seriously, if you want anything, it’ll be a pleasure sent you some stuff.

I can’t agree more about the disdain for people falsely claiming allergies. They can do the diet for whatever reason because that has really helped those that must abstain, but it also makes people not believe you and not take precautions
Gluten free almost used to be a mere superstition so I feel you.

Ye’, I was working on the frozen department once and a customer berated me because we didn’t have any gluten free sausage rolls. I told her we didn’t get many in as we don’t sell many, so they came in in fits and starts.
She looked at me and reached down to regular frozen sausage rolls and said, they’ll do .
I just wanted to shout after her.

That pretty much sums up the problem. Why does trendy have to be so rude?
